If your pet has been shaking its head, or has smelly or red ears, we use an otoscope to look into the ear to search for potential ear infections, growths, or foreign materials that can cause pain, discomfort, or infection.
Below is a sample case:
Patient: 5 year old Female, Labrador Retriever
Symptoms: Scratching Ears, Head shaking
Patient was anesthetized so AVDH staff could insert a video otoscope deep into the ear canal.
A bacterial infection was found in the ear along with significant amounts of ear wax. There are instances where foreign objects, such as ticks, Johnson Grass, or burrs are found lodged in the ear canal. The otoscope can remove those objects, as well.
After this 45-minute deep ear cleaning, the patient’s scratching and head shaking ceased.
