Thyroidectomy

Thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure which includes the removal of one or both thyroid glands. This procedure is used to treat hyperthyroidism, a common condition in older cats in which the thyroid glands produce extra amounts of thyroid hormones.

A thyroidectomy can also be performed to treat thyroid cancer.
