Video Otoscope

Effective and efficient treatment for pets suffering from chronic ear disease.

To enhance the treatment of pets with chronic ear disease, Austin Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital frequently uses video otoscopy. This advanced technique has revolutionized the management of ear infections by providing exceptional clarity in assessing the ear canal, eardrum, and sometimes the middle ear.

What is Video Otoscopy?
Video otoscopy involves using a small, rigid otoscope equipped with a built-in camera that can be inserted into the ear canal. The image is projected onto a screen, allowing for magnification and a much clearer view of the deeper ear canal and structures. The otoscope also has small channels that enable instruments to be passed into the ear canal for deeper cleaning, polyp or tumor removal, and other procedures. This technology often makes the difference between prolonged struggles and a much quicker resolution of infections and diseases.

Procedure Details
Due to the sensitive nature of the ear canal and the need for the patient to remain perfectly still, video otoscopy typically requires general anesthesia. In some cases, a single video otoscopy session is sufficient, while other cases may require multiple sessions over time to fully resolve an infection or challenging condition.

By utilizing video otoscopy, veterinarians can provide more effective and efficient treatment for pets suffering from chronic ear disease.
